Royal Bangkok Sports Club were very keen to play cricket in Chiang Mai even though it was the rainy season and there optimism was rewarded as the rain held off long enough for a 30-over match to be played at Royals. Even though the Chiang Mai side looked strong, the visitors dominated a low-scoring encounter as they won by 69 runs.

The ground at Royal Chiang Mai had been under water a few days before but the new cricket ground has some impressive drainage facilities and even through the pitch proved rather difficult the match went ahead. RBSC made a steady start but young leg-spinner Bunchuai took three quick wickets and Wani supported him with two more and the visitors looked in trouble at 58 for 6.

But RBSC are an experienced team and Jackson and Vicky rebuilt the innings with great determination as they added 52 for the seventh wicket and even though the last four wickets well for just 10, a useful total had been put on the board in difficult conditions.

Chiang Mai’s innings was a great disappointment as only Max Coombes reached double figures and Bunchuai demoted to number eight was left stranded on six not out. Aamir took 3 for 6 and Manoj 4 for 13 as the home side were skittled out for 51 to be comprehensively defeated by 69 runs.
