COMPETITION RULES

MCC Laws of Cricket are followed, except where otherwise stated

TEAMS Each team are asked to provide a squad of a minimum of six and a maximum of ten players. Names must be submitted before the start of the competition and squad numbers must be worn with each player wearing the same number in every match. Junior players are available to supplement teams but only in exceptional circumstances can they play for more than one team.

CAPTAIN One player from each team will act as Captain for the duration of the competition, even though he may not necessarily play in each match and he will be responsible for time keeping and assuring the good conduct of his team.

SIXES RULES The tournament uses the basic Sixes rules with six players per side in a 5-over per innings match. Each player apart from the wicket-keeper will bowl one over except when a player is injured. There will be no under-arm bowling and overs will be bowled in blocks of 3 and 2 at each end. Batsmen will change ends between overs where appropriate.

WIDES A wide counts as four extras to the batting side and the extra ball is only bowled when a wide is bowled from the final ball of the final over of each innings. The ball becomes dead and the batsman cannot be out nor additional runs scored. The umpires will judge wides in accordance with the guide lines painted outside off and leg stumps with the batsman in his normal position.

NO BALLS No balls count as two extra runs and they shall be re-bowled. Runs can be scored from a no ball in the normal way and no balls will be called for foot faults and for bowling waist high full tosses or short balls that pass above shoulder height. Markings will be made at 15 yards (bowlers’ run-ups) and 25 yards (wicket-keeper’s position) and any infringements will be called no ball.

RETIREMENTS The batsman shall retire on reaching 30 runs but runs scored in making the shot to reach 30 can be completed.

INCOMING BATSMEN The next batsman must be ready to start his innings at all times and should stand beside the square leg umpire and not interfere in play.

LAST MAN STANDING If five wickets fall in any innings the last batsman may continue until he is out or the innings is complete.

RESULT The side scoring most runs will be considered the winners and where scores are level the match will be tied.

POINTS SYSTEM The winning side shall be awarded four points while both sides receive two points in a tied match. Bonus points will be scored for reaching 80 runs or taking five wickets in an innings. If the side batting second wins before the start of the fifth over they will also receive a bonus point but if the side batting second wins in the fifth over, their opponents receive a bonus point. The final bonus point is available to sides who win by limiting their opponents to less than 80 % of their total or lose by scoring more than 80 % of their opponent’s total.

GROUP STAGES Teams are playing in two groups of four and will play three matches as they play each of the other teams in their group. Teams will be ranked according to their points scored but where two teams are level on points the result of the match between the two sides will be the deciding factor. Where three teams are level on points or the match between two teams level on points has been tied, run-rates will be taken into account.

KNOCK OUT MATCHES The top two teams in each group will then play semi-finals on the second day of the competition, as will the bottom two teams. This will allow the tournament to end with four finals with every team able to win a trophy as winners or runners-up. Where matches are tied wickets lost will be taken into account and then boundaries scored (6s then 4s).

SPEED OF PLAY Ten matches will be played on each of the two days so all teams and officials will need to maintain a good pace of play with minimum delays between innings or matches. Paired matches will be introduced if required as play will not continue beyond 5-30 pm.

SPIRIT OF CRICKET The spirit of cricket shall be upheld at all times as this is a friendly competition aimed at building good relations between teams and to help develop junior cricket in Northern Thailand.

HELMETS AND EQUIPMENT Helmets and other cricket equipment are available to borrow but they must be taken care of and returned to Martin Papworth after use.
