The third day of the ACC Women’s Premier cricket tournament in Chiang Mais saw impressive wins for Thailand and China who are looking the two strongest sides in the competition as both have now won two matches out of two.
Thailand were outstanding in their match against Nepal at Royals as Chanida Sutthiruang enjoyed being given the new ball and took two wickets for three runs in a fine opening spell, and Nepal’s batting line-up were never able to deal with Thailand’s accurate bowling or lively fielding. Sornnarin Tippoch claimed 3 wickets for 13 in her 8 overs and there were two run outs as Nepal were dismissed for just 39.
Faced with such a low target Thailand were much more positive with the bat as Nattakan Chantam hit four boundaries in her unbeaten 25 as her team raced to victory by eight wickets in only 13.1 overs.
China also gained their second victory of the competition as they beat Iran by 124 runs at Prem. China
reached 227 for 9 in their 40 overs with Sun Huan top-scoring with 69 and Iran’s Nasimeh Rahshetaei taking four wickets. Iran then set their stall to bat out their 40 overs which they achieved with the last pair at the crease as they finished on 103 for 9.
Thailand and China, who met each other in the final of the last ACC Women’s Championship, again look to be the strongest teams in the tournament and their match on 18th February may well decide the eventual winners of this new Premier event.
