Lamphun winners of the recent Gymkhana Sixes shocked the best team in local cricket over the last few years as they beat CMCC by 7 wickets. The hero was young Kit who bowled left-arm over and returned the extraordinary figures of 5 for 21 but two Lanna players who appeared as guests played their part as Neville McLean and Richie George contributed greatly in the run-chase as Lamphun reached their target of 190 with only three wickets down.
CMCC chose to bat after winning the toss and started in fine style as Sami and Asif Noor shared an opening stand of 57 in six overs before Leng took the first wicket by bowling Sami for 28. Kit came on to bowl the 8th over and made an impact straight away as he bowled Asif Noor for 25 with his first ball and he took wickets with the first ball in four successive overs all either bowled or lbw.
It was a remarkable performance from a young bowler and he also dismissed Ismail caught at long on as he took five wickets in his first match in local cricket. Insha was still there and went for his shots as Cher brought on new bowlers, Insha made 69 with 5 fours and 7 sixes but CMCC were bowled out for 189 with nine bowlers used with only Richie and Nung not getting a bowl.
Nev opened with Frame and he made a steady 28 from 33 balls as the score mounted with a number of wides. Leng hit some flamboyant drives as he made 35 from 30 balls but it was left to captain Cher and Richie to see Lamphun home to an impressive victory. Richie hit the winning boundary to finish on 47 from 31 balls with 8 fours and a six.
Lamphun had won by seven wickets but it was a welcome victory for the two Lanna players on the field and a few more Lanna stalwarts watching after a succession of defeats at the hands of CMCC.
