Lanna International School is one of Lanna CC’s main supporters as part of their Cricket in the Community campaign which allows children at the school have weekly cricket coaching and sees them play against other CMSCA schools in the annual Sixes Sawasdee Cup which will be held at the David Buck Oval at Prem International School on Sunday 5th March.
This was the fourth time that the annual Parents against Teachers match has been held at Gymkhana Club and several players have also played for Lanna, headed of course by headmaster Hugh Williams who again masterminded the morning match. The Parents were looking to level the scores at 2 wins apiece so there was a lot at stake even early on Sunday morning.
Parents batted first with Johnnie batting well for 23 and Chas Begley of Stuffed Beavers fame making a characteristic duck. Ant Robertson is also a familiar face for Floggers and Gymkhana Cavaliers and he blasted 27 with 4 fours and a six.
The Parents had a long batting order with Neil, Jeff, Colin and Alexis all reaching double figures so they were able to post a total of 129 in 20 overs even though Mr Lindsay and Mr Warrie both took two wickets.
The Teachers would have to bat well to have a chance of victory and Mr Alex and Mr Hugh both reached 30 so had to retire. Somehow a comfortable chase became a nail biting finish and even though Mr Warrie made 17 wickets continued to fall.
This allowed Mr Alex and Mr Hugh to return to the crease and surely the match would be won but neither could strike the winning hit and the Parents held on to win by one run as an entertaining match finished in very exciting fashion.
Chairman Tom provided lunch for all players and officials and Mr Hugh conducted the presentation ceremony to round off a lovely morning of cricket.
