Captain Pete says thanks for a fantastic season

Lanna CC’s astute onfield captain, Southend Pete, has made his return to the cold and wet of the UK after finishing his annual six-month stay in Thailand, and he wanted to pass on his thanks to all involved with Lanna on and off the field for making his season such an enjoyable one.

Pete Warner always gives members of his team their chance to shine often at the expense of himself as he tends to bat lower in the order than his ability merits. It was no surprise that his final match saw Gymkhana win the annual battle for the Dick Wood Cup against British Club without him coming to the crease. Yet it was his decision to call on leg-spinner Russell Ward and the move paid dividends as Russell took a match-winning 6 for 22 (and it could have been 7).

But that would have prevented captain Pete taking the winning catch and being delighted with his team’s performance as he clutched the prestigious Dick Wood Cup.

Lanna’s cricket season was far from over as they competed strongly in the Chiang Big Bash just as Pete was saying his farewells and there will be plenty of friendlies to come as well as the conclusion of the Chiang Mai Senior League and the run-up to the Chiang Mai Sixes in April.

See you later in the year, Captain Pete.....
